Bringing You The Listening Vibes Of the Climactic Period Of The Year.
Christmas is widely celebrated in sound through Christmas carols and Christmas instrumental music. Some Christmas carols can be traced back as far as the middle ages and often the distinctive chord patterns peculiar to this period are incorporated with Christmas music to add a unique Christmas flavour. Listen now to this beautiful new Christmas CD music.
Most of the Christmas music and even traditions such as giving of presents, sending Christmas cards and Christmas trees and decorations are of a more recent time frame and do not go back more than two or three hundred years at the most, even less. With the few exceptions such as 'Angels From The Realms Of Glory' which dates back to the thirteenth century few carols, such as 'O Come All Ye Faithful' go back any further than 1743 with the great majority of traditional carols having been written in the nineteenth century.
Originally the songs were sung at Harvest time and then introduced into Christmas church services, today many songs such as 'White Christmas', 'Jingle Bells' and 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' are sung as secular songs at Christmas time.
Christmas instrumental music is often played by Salvation Army bands and many pieces have been written for instruments alone giving rise to anticipation and involvement in the joyous festival that we call Christmas which name is derived from the Christmas services held in church and entitled, 'Christ's mass'.
Church services are held in most kinds of Christian churches irrespective of denominational background. At Christmas the oratorios of some of the greatest composers have their annual concerts. Perhaps the two most familiar of these are the 'Messiah' by George Frederick Handel and the 'Christmas Oratorio' by Johan Sebastian Bach.
In England 'carolers' move from house to house singing suitable Christmas carols where they receive a drink and often money which is donated to charity.
A tradition celebrated in Australia in the three weeks prior to Christmas is for various cities and individual churches to celebrate singing Carols by Candlelight. This culminates with a large concert of the same name in Melbourne where thousands of people sing carols and Christmas songs holding small candles while famous entertainers lead the performances.
