Easy listening was a very popular style of music particularly on radio and records between 1950 and 1980. There were a large number of listeners: maybe you were one of them?

I'm sure you've heard of such well known names as Percy Faith, Henry Mancini and Mantovani and his orchestra. There were also adaptations of easy listening vocal styles such as Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams and Bing Crosby to name a few.

This style of music features catchy melodies, cool harmonies and distinct rhythmic patterns. It was often used for dance music. Beautiful music is part and parcel of Easy Listening music. In the radio pattern the instrument settings were quite rigid and excluded saxophones for example.

Sometimes it is mistakenly called lounge music. It is more similar to light classical music than any other genre.It is used to create a nostalgic and romantic atmosphere and is often referred to as mood music.

Today it is often considered a middle of the road or MOR format. This music is always intriguing and full of delightful surprises with entrancing rhythms and boutique melodies.
